Room Air Cleaners

Room air cleaners replaced tabletop units in the 1990s as the leading type of home air cleaner. Tabletop units proved to be mostly ineffective, because of the inadequate volume of air being moved through the unit. Room air cleaners are almost as portable, and they are a lot more effective. There are three basic types of room air cleaners made for single-room use.

HEPA Filtered Air Purifiers

HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. Most often made of charcoal, a HEPA filter is placed upwind of a high-velocity fan on the unit, which forces the contaminates into the filter, catching debris such as dust mites, tobacco smoke, pollen, and other pollutants.

Portable Air Purifiers

Keeping Fresh with Portable Air Purifiers. Most of us have heard of the importance of air purifiers in the home. No matter how much you clean, there is always something floating in the air. Toxins from cleaners, air fresheners, aerosol spray bottles, pet dander, dust, mold, etc. But what if you need to travel and still want fresh air? This is where a portable air purifier comes into play.

When you need to leave home and go into a crowded airport, movie theater, waiting room, etc you can now wear a portable air purifier around your neck or on your shirt pocket and breathe much easier.

How A Portable Air Purifier Works

The portable air purifier works in a similar way to a standard air purifier. But it creates a zone in front of the mouth, nose, and eyes and repels the dust, smoke, pollen, allergens, dander, and anything else light enough to float in the air (up to .3 to 3 microns).

Oreck Air Cleaner

Oreck Air Cleaner. It is also estimated that with the air pollution, 40-50 million Americans now suffer from air related allergies and 17 million battle asthma, many times causing important health issues and expenditure. The typical american home, or any home in the world, enables germs, fungi, virus and bacteria to grow within the confines of its 4 walls. If inhaled into the lungs, germs can cause cold, flu, pneumonia and other respiratory infections...and all these are related to the air quality we breathe in daily.

If we care for our health, these findings and research results is a great concern to us, firstly those in America and then internationally. As outdoors are quickly getting more inconvenient for the busy worker to find time to breathe in fresh air, it becomes very important for the typical american to take steps to ensure the air he and his family breathe in at home is clean and free from pollutants to the highest degree.

Ionizer Air Cleaner

There are 2 types of air purifiers available in the market. The first is the HEPA filter. The other is the Ionizer air cleaner. HEPA or High Efficiency Particulate Air is a filter that uses a fan to draw air inside. The filter then re-circulates the air back into the room. This system is used in commercial planes given the limited oxygen in mid-air.

This works well against animal dander, pollen, mold spores and dust. It also removes smoke and harmful kinds of bacteria up to .3 microns in size. Even if this device has been recommended by several departments, it is not able to kill all particles.

Ionic Air Cleaner

Ionic air cleaners are not filter systems. Ionic air cleaners work by sending out negatively charged ions into the air of your home. The ions latch onto chemicals and particles such as dust, tobacco smoke, and pollen, causing them to become attracted to each other and to the interior surfaces of your home. The result is that they drop right out of the air. You wipe, mop, and vacuum the precipitant as part of your regular chores. This may seem like a dirty way to purify the air, but many machines are highly effective at it.

Types of Ionic Air Cleaners

Some ionic air cleaners have fans and others don't. Those with fans can be noisy or very quiet, depending on the brand.

The CADR Level

CADR stands for clean air delivery rate. It is usually represented by numbers. Technically speaking, the higher the number, the better the air cleaner as it indicate the filtration rate is high. On any air cleaner, you should be able to see three numbers which indicate the volume of processed air for each of the three most common contaminants, namely, pollen, dust and smoke.
